We will have discussed your health history over the phone prior to your first in-person appointment. When we meet I will carry out a physical assessment, discuss my findings with you and proceed to your first treatment if appropriate and provided you are happy.
We will discuss a plan moving forward. I will give my clinical recommendation on how best to proceed but it is always your choice as to how frequently you visit.
In-person appointments, both initial and subsequent, will be around 35 minutes.
At subsequent appointments I can offer postural advice to raise your awareness of simple things that you may be doing every day which may be exacerbating your problem. You may also be given some basic exercises or stretches that would be beneficial to you. Don’t worry, all the exercises I suggest can be integrated into your normal day and don’t require specialist equipment – no reason not to do them!

The initial aim of the treatment plan is to reduce the level of your any discomfort that you are experiencing and restore good function.
The number of sessions you will need depends on the nature of your problem, how long you have had it, your general health, occupation and lifestyle and how you respond to treatment. Restoring good function is a process rather than an event - one treatment is unlikely to be enough. Typically, people find 2-6 sessions sufficient to get them on an even keel, but everyone is different. Your progress and time between treatments is reviewed and agreed regularly.
The long-term aim is to prevent recurrence. Chiropractors find that the body benefits from having periodic chiropractic care on a prophylactic basis so that recurrence or incipient problems may be avoided. Therefore, once out of an acute stage, I will discuss with you an appropriate maintenance programme.
I will always give my clinical judgement and suggestion for care but the choice is always yours as to how often you come. I don’t sell packages.

My treatments are usually carried out through loose, light clothing so wear something that works for that. On occasion, I may ask you to move or remove some clothing to assess or treat an area.

This varies from person to person. Most people feel relief and freer movement after treatments. Some people may feel tired or stiff the following day, especially after the first treatment as there’s been a change in how the body is moving and functioning.
It is important to take care of your body for a couple of days after treatment and avoid sport, lifting and vigorous activity. I will give you some pointers on to how to get the best out of your treatments and how you can play your part to be the best you can be.
